A field journal of the unexplained, the ancient & the astronomical

Welcome to The Ancient Sky.

Every day I go looking for the stories worth your time: real discoveries in space and science, new finds from the ancient world, and yes, the occasional report of something in the sky that nobody can quite explain. No hype, no scare headlines, and no breathless guesses passed off as fact. If a claim is documented, I’ll tell you. If it’s only claimed, I’ll tell you that too, and I’ll show you where I got it. The universe is strange enough without exaggerating it. Let’s get started.

The Black Triangle Files: What the Newest Pentagon Release Actually Says

The Department of War's seventh PURSUE release, posted October 23, 2026, includes an AARO memo and an FBI form describing a silent, matte black triangle that federal agents say they saw rise over a ridge, hover and race into a canyon earlier this year. The two documents agree on shape, silence and general size, and disagree on the time, the duration, whether there was a hover and what to call the object. Neither identifies it. A separate near miss near Heathrow, reported in the same news cycle, is a different case.

They Were There: The Alaskan Camp That Is Reshaping the Story of the First Americans

Archaeologists reported on October 14, 2026, that a ridge above the Tanana River in interior Alaska holds a camp dated to about 13,800 years ago, with a probable lean-to shelter, hearths, an earth oven, eyed bone needles and diamond-shaped stone blades. The paper in Science Advances calls it the "earliest potential case of a habitation structure in North America." It does not claim the oldest site in Beringia, and it does not claim dogs.

Our field rules

Every claim sourced. Documented, claimed, unverified: kept apart.

Every article ends with links to every source used.

Research and drafting are AI-assisted; a human editor reviews the sources and approves each story before it is published.

Documented

There is a record you can read: a transcript, a filing, a paper, an official release.

Claimed

Someone says it is so. We name who, and what they offered as evidence.

Unverified

We could not check it. We say so plainly and never present it as fact.
